When choosing plastic tableware, the first thing to consider is whether the label is complete, and then the product. The surface of the product should be smooth, free of stains, impurities, scratches, cracks, etc., without discoloration or fading, and can also be smelled for any irritating odors or other odors. Can heated plastic tableware be used or not? What hazards are there!
The plastic tableware is uneven and needs to be replaced
Plastic products also have a shelf life. After expiration, the plastic will age, discolor, and become brittle. If the plastic box used turns yellow or no longer transparent, it should be replaced as soon as possible. So, there are always people online who say, "If plastic lunch boxes are used for a long time, the inside will become uneven, and if the lost part cannot be fixed, it will be eaten into the stomach." Don't believe it or not. Therefore, consumers must pay attention to the shelf life of plastic products. Meanwhile, aged plastics may release substances that may be harmful to the human body. As for the lifespan of a plastic lunch box, it depends on personal use and cleaning methods. The shelf life of most plastic products is generally around three to five years, and if used frequently, it is better to replace them for one to two years.
These foods cannot be placed in plastic lunch boxes
The bubbles in carbonated beverages (soda, cola, etc.) can cause the sealing ability of plastic lunch boxes to be lost. Foaming food, fermented food, hot food, etc. can reduce the sealing performance of plastic lunch boxes. Please try to avoid storing such food in plastic lunch boxes.
When used in a microwave, if the food contains a lot of oil and sugar, the plastic lunch box will deform when the temperature rises rapidly. So, heat the aforementioned food using a microwave oven specific box.
Will heating plastic tableware be toxic?
What will be added to the plastic lunch box first? Yes, there is a substance called plasticizer. Plasticizers can enhance the flexibility of plastics, making them easier to process and plastic. They have been widely used in industry, so plastic products are prone to release plasticizers after heating. Currently, commonly used plasticizers in the market include DBP, DEHP, DINP, and DIDP.
Each type of plastic has its own heat resistance limit. Among materials for food use, polypropylene (PP) can withstand 140 ℃, followed by polyethylene (PE) which can withstand 110 ℃, while polystyrene (PS) can only withstand up to 90 ℃. At present, the plastic lunch boxes for microwave ovens on the market are mainly made of PP or PE. If the temperature exceeds their heat resistance limit, plasticizers may be released. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid using high temperature heating plastic lunch boxes to heat food for a long time.
